Where Did My Story Go?: Google AdSense Scam

After taking the time to write chapter by chapter and promote this blog extensively, I built up a readership quite quickly...apparently too quickly for Google AdSense who feels that the level of readership was somehow artificially inflated.  As SOON as I reached the threshold amount of receiving a payout from them, they disabled my account and confiscated all monies earned thus far from Ads shown on the blog.  Now, they received legitimate readership and their advertisers were able to get their message out and be seen by almost 20,000 people who may not have otherwise seen their ad and there is no way to verify any number of sales these companies may have made from these people.

I can't take the readership back away from the advertisers and can't have people send their purchases back for refunds...the advertisers received the fair value of their advertisments but I receive no compensation whatsoever.  What I can do, however, is ask any of the loyal readers out there to leave a comment verifying that you are actual people.  Thanks for your support.

Here is the automated e-mail from AdSense (as no details are provided, I have to wonder if this is just a scam on their part to avoid paying bloggers that reach the threshold):

Subject: Google AdSense Account Disabled

---------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

After reviewing our records, we've determined that your AdSense account poses a risk of generating invalid activity. Because we have a responsibility to protect our AdWords advertisers from inflated costs due to invalid activity, we've found it necessary to disable your AdSense account.
Your outstanding balance and Google's share of the revenue will both be fully refunded back to the affected advertisers.

Please understand that we need to take such steps to maintain the effectiveness of Google's advertising system, particularly the advertiser-publisher relationship. We understand the inconvenience that this may cause you, and we thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

If you have any questions or concerns about the actions we've taken, how you can appeal this decision, or invalid activity in general, you can find more information by visiting http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=57153.

Sincerely,

The Google AdSense Team

  2. Thanks for the support. They didn't even send an e-mail to ask me how I was promoting the blog in order to find out how I was able to reach that level of readership so quickly. They just sent the e-mail and refused to pay...allowing me to appeal their decision which may take a week or so.
This is a true story and I gave them legitimate readership and value to their advertisers. The readers got to see a free story (as opposed to buying a book), the advertisers received high viewership, and they received revenue from the advertisers. The few pennies that I would have made has been taken away so the one that gets absolutely nothing for doing the work is me. It wasn't a whole lot of money but now the principle of the matter has me incensed.

  3. I am a follower of this blog. Might it have to do with posting links on craigslist?
I don't trust any of them....craigslist or google....or ebay or paypal.

  6. I too have followed your story and I am disapointed to not be able to finish this marvalous manuscript in the form of a true adventure. My name is Bob Buckwheat but that is just a screen name for my own protection. I am attempting to learn how to write in short story format and have a long way to go but would feel privileged to even wipe the dust off your boots, or in this case clip your nails for you. Lol. I am also glad I have learned through your bad luck not to trust these advertisers. I bet if you google this problem you will not be the only one they are putting the screws too. As another reader here asked you, is there some place to finish reading your story? I am here for you too, if you need any witnesses to help with your appeal. Have you looked into Mybukisa?

I have writen a couple small pieces and you can make a little bit on there but I think they have started making people join this google adsense before you can post anything. I refused to be bullyed into doing that though. Let me know when you figure something out for us readers and you can contact me at ddrdon1955@yahoo.com Signed D.M.E.

  9. Well it sounds like he went into deep depression and don't want to mess with the story any more. That really sucks. It's like reading a book only to find out someone ripped out the last couple of chapters. Or maybe putting together a puzzle and finding that there is several pieces missing. You should at least finish it for us by telling us where we could read it at. Hell, I would send you a few bucks to help pay for it too. D.M.E. AT ddrdon1955@yahoo.com

  10. I am thankful to you for letting us know how Google AdSense is treating their customers. I was thinking about joining so I could publish a few articles but I refuse to take a chance that what happened to you will happen to me. That or any other excuse they might come up with. Thanks again for the heads up and I hope you find a good site to resume your talents and also a good Holiday Season to you and yours. P.S. You may want to run a few copies off and place them on sites like Craigslist.
